2011 Scottish Rite Photograph Contest
Terms
The Scottish Rite Photograph contest begins January 5, 2011 at midnight (12 a.m.) U.S. Eastern Time and ends May 31, 2011 11:59:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time.
Who May Enter
Contest is open to everyone, other than employees of the Supreme Council, 33°, or persons living in the same households of such employees, whether or not related. Youth will be considered in a separate category and youth will be designated to be entrants under the age of 18.
How to Enter
To be considered valid, entries must be submitted via email and must contain the following information:
1. A single image in the appropriate format (see below)
2. Entrant’s Name
3. Entrant’s Mailing Address (Street or PO Box, City, State, ZIP)
4. Entrant’s Email Address
5. Entrant’s Primary Phone Number
6. Entrant’s Date of Birth (for entrants 18 and younger only)
7. Category for which the image is being entered (only one category per entry; see below for categories)
8. Photo caption
9. Submit photo by email to Heather at hcalloway@scottishrite.org
The categories for entries are: (1) Masonic People, (2) Masonic Places & (3) Masonic Things. All photographs must have something to do with Freemasonry, the Scottish Rite, or any appendant Masonic organizations or philanthropies.
Each entrant may submit entries in any Category he/she wishes and may submit entries at different times during the entry period, but no entrant may submit in total more than (10) entries.
Each entry must comply with the following requirements:
Photographs must be in digital format. Only online entries will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into this Contest. The photograph need not be taken with a digital camera; scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints are acceptable. All digital files must be 5 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image).
The photograph must not have been entered into a previous Scottish Rite Photo Contest.
The photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the Contest entrant. By entering the Contest, entrant represents, acknowledges, and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph. In the event that the submitted photograph infringes on any such rights, the entrant will indemnify and defend Supreme Council, SJ, its officers, directors and, and employees from any costs, liability, claim or action.
The photograph must not, in the sole and unfettered discretion of the Supreme Council, contain objectionable or inappropriate content.
Prizes
First Place, Second Place, Third Place, Honorable Mentions in each category; Youth contestants (Youth are those under the age of 18. All youth photographs will compete against other youth only.)

Judging
Judges will select finalists in each Category from among all eligible entries based on the following criteria: (1) Creativity 50%; (2) Photographic quality 50%.
Entries selected in round one will proceed to round two. In round two, judges will collectively select winners in each category. Winners will be chosen on or around May 31, 2011, and notified by email. Decisions of the judges are final.
License
By entering the Contest, all entrants grant an irrevocable perpetual, nonexclusive license to the Supreme Council, SJ, to reproduce, distribute, and display the entries or any derivative works of the entries the Supreme Council desires to make, (along with a name credit) in connection with the Contest and promotion of the Contest, in any media now or hereafter known, including, but not limited to: on the Scottish Rite website; on display at a potential exhibition of winners; in a book published by the Scottish Rite; publication in the Scottish Rite Journal magazine or online highlighting entries or winners of the Contest, or for any other purpose as the Council may decide.
Display or publication of any entry on an Authorized Party’s web site does not indicate the entrant will be selected as a winner.

Paul R. Kach Essay Competition
“The
Importance of Role Models”
A “Role Model” is someone that we respect, admire, emulate, and look up to. DeMolays and Non-DeMolays all need “Role Models.” Some use parents, grandparents, relatives, teachers, and heroes as “Role Models.”
Who is your “Role Model” and how have they helped shape your life not only in DeMolay, but in school and every day life? Where would you be in the world today without this “Role Model?”
Explain to us the importance of having a “Role Model.” Also let us know how they have affected your life. Have you told this person what a difference they have made in your life? Share with them your essay upon completion. The reaction may be more meaningful for both of you!
Enter the 2011 Scottish Rite, Paul R. Kach Essay Competition and share your thoughts and ideas on the theme:
“The Importance of Role Models.”
Competition Rules
1) The first category is for young men in the 11th grade and above. The second category is for young men in the 10th grade and below.
2) Entries in this essay competition must be titled, “The Importance of Role Models.” While the content of the essay is of primary concern, proper grammar and spelling will also be factors in the judging.
3) Each entrant must be an active DeMolay, not having reached his 21st birthday before or on the date of the competition deadline for submission, and must be in good standing with his Chapter.
4) The essay must be an original work by the entrant and must be 1000 to 1500 words. The absolute minimum or maximum number of words must be observed.
5) Prizes will be awarded for first place entries in each DeMolay region for each category, solely at the discretion of the judging panel.
6) All entries must be typed and double-spaced. The author’s name, grade, address, phone number, and chapter name must be the only items on the cover page. All pages are to be securely stapled.
7) Only one essay will be accepted from each author.
8) All essays must be received by your Executive Officer not later than May 15, 2011. Each Executive Officer will forward them to the Region Representative no later than June 1, 2011. Region Representatives will establish an impartial judging panel for the purpose of determining region winners. Region Representatives will send all essays, with winners noted, to the DeMolay Service & Leadership Center in Kansas City no later than July 1, 2011. A national judging panel will be established through the offices of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Masonic Jurisdiction. At all levels of judging, the panelists will not know the name of the author or home jurisdiction.
9) Prize winners will be informed by mail and appropriate presentations of prize checks made. The Scottish Rite and the Order of DeMolay reserve the right to publish winning essays in appropriate publications. All essays become the property of DeMolay International.
10) Previous winners will not be considered for another prize in the same age category.
