DeMolay in the National's Capital

We are currently working on an extensive Jurisdictional History but we want to give you a brief overview of DeMolay in Washington, DC.

DeMolay started in 1919 in Kansas City, MO by "Dad" Frank Sherman Land and nine young men.  The activities of Kansas City Chapter #1 included a DeMolay Baseball Team, a DeMolay Band, a Parade Unit and many other activities.  At the same time the Chapter was going through and serving the community and doing a number of other activities.

Masons from throughout the country saw how important DeMolay  was and wanted to bring it to their area.  DeMolay started in Washington, DC in 1920 with the forming of Robert Le Bruce Chapter meeting on 16th Street in Washington, DC.  DeMolay did a number of exciting programs including sports, community service and a number of other activities.  For the next sixty years DeMolay in Washington, DC. DeMolay partnered actively with Maryland DeMolay and the two jurisdictions often shared the same Jurisdictional Leadership.  

In 1980, the DeMolay Chapters in Washington, DC began to elect their own Jurisdictional Leaders and function as their own jurisdiction.  DeMolay has contracted and expanded during it's 90 year history in Washington, DC.

DeMolay in Washington, DC has seen a number of exciting events occur during our history.  Including presenting Presidents Herbert Hoover, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, and Gerald R. Ford with the Legion of Honor.  DeMolay was present at the re-enactment of the laying of the cornerstone at the US Capitol,  and hosting an inaugural set of degrees at the Scottish Rite House of the Temple.  Perhaps most importantly there are the countless of times that DeMolay has helped to make Washington, DC a better place through community service, helping others and positively impacting the community.
